\u201cWe need training, to acquire and utilize the same instruments that the white people have. \u00a0Even if this knowledge is not our own, we need to learn how to use it\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Irani Makuxi <\/b><\/p>\n \u201cAn agenda of affirmative action for Indigenous Women of Brazil\u201d<\/p>\n Rita Laura Segato<\/strong><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\n AUDIOVISUAL AND MULTIMEDIA TRAINING WORKSHOPS FOR INDIGENOUS WOMEN<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Instituto Catitu, through its multimedia workshops, seeks to promote the role of indigenous women from a creative process of appropriation of new communication skills. \u00a0Although there is from the side of indigenous women a growing interest in activities that used to be restricted to men, the opportunities for training and active spaces that take their specificities into account are rare. \u00a0The more constant contact with the surrounding society has brought transformations to the life of women, their access to information and capacities, and to specific policies as well. Utilizing new technologies as tools of self-representation opens new possibilities of expression and promotes women\u2019s self-esteem. \u00a0There is an important political aspect here in the sense that it provides them a new way to present themselves to the western world, following their choices, their evaluation, and perspectives. \u00a0We start to have access to the perspective of women, expressed many times in a more striking way than by conventional political discourse. \u00a0Watch the video. See the v\u00eddeo.<\/a><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”1_3″][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”http:\/\/institutocatitu.org.br\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/WIURE-2012_6207-e1390402631711.jpg” animation=”top” \/][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_3″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\n THE WORKSHOPS<\/b><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The workshops began in 2010, during the 5th Women\u2019s Meeting of the National Xingu Park organized by Projeto Xingu, of the University of S\u00e3o Paulo. \u00a0The experience of a training model geared exclusively to women was fundamental to motivate them to join the project and generated a demand for new workshops. \u00a0In 2011, the 2nd workshop bought together, also in Xingu, 22 women from the Kawaiwet\u00e9, Kamaiur\u00e1, and Ikpeng ethnicities. \u00a0The participation of women of several generations showed that the technological apparatus proper to multimedia production are not obstacles to the participation of older women. \u00a0Under the supervision of Mari Corr\u00eaa, Instituto Catitu\u2019s coordinator and of filmmaker Tata Amaral, the participants produced a short fiction film, \u201cA Cutia e o Macaco\u201d (link), inspired by a Kawaiwet\u00e9 lull song. \u00a0They also recorded the making of twelve traditional culinary recipes. \u00a0In 2012, the 3rd workshop took on a multimedia format with the participation of the artist and educator Marie Ange Bordas. \u00a0In it, the women manifested their desire to continue the work on traditional culinary.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”2_3″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\n This interest is not new: \u00a0culinary has been the object of several works related to health by Unifesp and to environmental management on the part of Instituto Socioambiental, which generated an interesting project of cultural recovery of species of peanuts traditionally grown by the Kawaiwet\u00e9 people.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_testimonial admin_label=”Testimonial” url_new_window=”off” author=”Wisio Kayabi” quote_icon=”off” use_background_color=”on” background_color=”#efaa35″ background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” job_title=”female leader from Xingu”]<\/p>\n \u201cI always wanted this: \u00a0to show how we make our food, how it is important for our health and to maintain our culture. \u00a0The women make it, but it is for everybody to live well\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_testimonial][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”http:\/\/institutocatitu.org.br\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_8266-Wisio-byMari-e1390406528680.jpg” animation=”left” \/][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”1_4″][et_pb_cta admin_label=”Call To Action” title=”VISIT OUR FLICKR” button_url=”https:\/\/secure.flickr.com\/photos\/institutocatitu\/” button_text=”+ FOTOS” background_color=”#eca531″ use_background_color=”on” background_layout=”dark” text_orientation=”center”]<\/p>\n Access our flickr and check out more photos of the Indigenous Women project<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_cta][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”3_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]
