<\/iframe><\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”3_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\nThe MAWO is the result of a project initiated\u00a0in 2009 by the Ikpeng peoples Moygu Association and\u00a0Instituto Catitu.\u00a0The initiative\u00a0resulted in the establishment of a culture house in the Moygu village, in\u00a0the Xingu Indigenous Park, to host a documentation\u00a0and research\u00a0center and an audiovisual production center.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\nKureko:\u00a0The Ikpeng culture documentation center \n<\/strong><\/p>\n“We will remember: ‘Oh, it is this work that is guarding our history, where we came from, where we are born, the source of our food, the source of water. This will all be stored forever. Our talk, the stories we tell.’ ” \u00a0 (Chief Melob\u00f4)<\/p>\nPrepared in the mother tongue from the criteria and categories that mark the Ikpeng worldview, the documentation center aims to encourage young people to value their language and the richness of their\u00a0knowledge, creating new spaces for the transmission of knowledge and cultural practices and providing\u00a0access to Ikpeng cultural\u00a0heritage by current\u00a0and future generations.<\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_4″][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”http:\/\/institutocatitu.org.br\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/logo_mawo.jpg” alt=”Mawo” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”off” animation=”top” \/][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”1_3″][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”http:\/\/institutocatitu.org.br\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_7006.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”off” animation=”left” \/][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_3″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\nIn order to spread this innovative experiment, we conducted over five years, the documentary “MAWO Project – Ikpeng House of Culture ” which depicts the deployment process, methodology and development of the Ikpeng Culture Documentation Centre to be shown to indigenous communities engaged in initiatives to promote their culture and the general public. <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/channels\/institutocatitu\/98173920\" target=\"_blank\">Watch the movie<\/a>.<\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\nBy bringing together in a documentation center in the village all of the Ikpeng production – movies, photos, books, drawings, texts, and historical documents produced by filmmakers and external\u00a0researchers, the community will have direct access to these materials.<\/p>\nThe Documentation Center also has vast potential to support community cultural projects, whether in the production of their films, CDs and books, or in the pedagogical support to the activities of\u00a0indigenous schools or even as support for environmental\u00a0projects.<\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_testimonial admin_label=”Testimonial” author=”Maiua Ikpeng” job_title=”Indigenous Teacher” url_new_window=”off” quote_icon=”off” use_background_color=”on” background_color=”#efaa35″ background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”center”]<\/p>\n\u201cFor us, MAWO is a meeting point between the new and tradition.\u201d<\/p>\n[\/et_pb_testimonial][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\nThe Database<\/strong><\/p>\nTo ensure that the database expresses the Ikpeng worldview, its creation had the involvement of teachers and students of the Ikpeng school, environmental management officers, staff of audiovisual\u00a0production and elders.<\/p>\nThe database was developed as part of the training of the team that went on to operate it so it could be accessed directly by the Ikpeng without depending on middlemen for its use.<\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”1_2″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\nMAWO<\/strong><\/p>\nSince its creation workshops were held on video, sound capture, digital illustration and initiating and creating an Ikpeng site (www.ikpeng.org) from ideas, drawings and texts produced by young\u00a0filmmakers, land and health agents and members of the Moygu Association. The Ikpeng filmmakers\u00a0made \u200b\u200bthe documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/channels\/institutocatitucatitueng\/74879384\" target=\"_blank\">Sound Tximna Yukunang (Sound Recording)<\/a> on the initiation ritual of Ikpeng\u00a0children and the CD Yumpuno Eremr\u00ef with the songs of this ritual. <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/channels\/institutocatitu\/74844356\" target=\"_blank\">Watch more<\/a>. \nThe project was sponsored by the Petrobras Cultural Program and the PDPI (Project Statement of Indigenous Peoples \/ Ministry of Environment); it had the support of the Embassy of Norway and also\u00a0had the partnership of the Socio-Environmental Institute and the Indian Museum (Documentation\u00a0Project of Cultures and Indigenous Languages\u200b).<\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/74844469?byline=0&portrait=0&color=ff9933\" width=\"320\" height=\"180\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\nFrom 2013, with the support of the Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage – IPHAN and the Embassy of Norway, Instituto Catitu continued its project to develop the Documentation Center:\u00a0cataloging the Ikpeng collection, youth empowerment for the administration of the database and\u00a0management of the documentation center, and training of teachers and students of the Ikpeng school to\u00a0use the database as a research tool.<\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”http:\/\/institutocatitu.org.br\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_4167_resize.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”off” animation=”off” \/][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left”]<\/p>\nThe Ikpeng people \n<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Ikpeng live in the Xingu Indigenous Park in Mato Grosso State, since 1967. The first official contact between them and the national society occurred in 1964 on the Jatoba River. Because they are\u00a0being threatened by miners who invaded their territory or contracted diseases, the Villas Boas brothers\u00a0convinced the 52 Indians who had left the group to move to the Park. Almost 50 years later, despite the\u00a0exile of their ancestral land, the Ikpeng continue to speak their own language and to celebrate their\u00a0festivals, but are worried about the weakening of the transmission of their knowledge and cultural\u00a0practices.<\/p>\nOn the one hand, the main community ritual specialists are aging, which threatens an important sourcecof this knowledge; On the other hand, the Ikpeng have been undergoing a series of transformations\u00a0resulting from greater contact with the national society, which interferes in the dialogue between\u00a0generations and traditional forms of transmission of knowledge and language.
